Education Outreach Officer

Punta Gorda and the Maya Golden Landscape, Toledo District

About the role

Ya’axché Conservation Trust is hiring an entry-level Education Outreach Officer, reporting to the Education Outreach Manager. The officer develops work plans and education materials in line with Ya’axché’s Education Strategy and delivers environmental education and outreach across 10 communities in the Maya Golden Landscape. The role is based at the main office in Punta Gorda, the Golden Stream Field Station and across the Maya Golden Landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement educational activities in line with Ya’axché’s Education Strategy
  • Help develop the annual education and outreach work plan
  • Develop educational and promotional multimedia materials
  • Deliver presentations across 10 Maya Golden Landscape communities
  • Plan and run events such as science fairs, Earth Day, protected-area field trips, Summer Camp, BioBlitz, the Farmers’ Expo and the Citizen Science Symposium
  • Handle logistics for outreach events, including invitations, agendas, transport and catering
  • Contribute ideas for education-related grant proposals
  • Monitor the impact of activities through attendance records, surveys and stakeholder feedback
  • Maintain the stakeholder engagement tracker and data repository
  • Share education updates at project and staff meetings

Requirements

  • Associate degree in natural resource management, environmental science, agriculture or a related field, or related environmental education and outreach experience
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in education, outreach or stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to lead, plan and execute work plans
  • Strong public-speaking and networking skills
  • Experience working in local communities and with Indigenous Peoples
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with the culture and traditions of the Toledo District
  • Sensitivity to the needs of people with low literacy or English as a second language
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Valid driver’s license
