About the role

Harvest Caye, Norwegian Cruise Line’s island destination in southern Belize (operated by Belize Island Holdings Ltd.), is hiring a Deckhand to assist with the daily operation and maintenance of its vessels. The role involves long hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, outdoor work in varying weather, and heavy lifting.

Responsibilities

Clean and maintain decks, mechanical and safety equipment
Paint, varnish and help with general upkeep of the vessel
Assist with docking and undocking and handle mooring lines and anchor equipment
Take part in safety drills and report hazards or equipment malfunctions
Help load, unload and secure cargo
Assist with navigation and watchkeeping and operate deck machinery under supervision
Carry out other duties assigned by the Marine Operations Manager, Harbor Master or Captain

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Physically fit and able to perform manual labour
Basic knowledge of marine equipment and operations
Able to work in varying weather conditions
Efficient swimmer

Preferred qualifications

Previous maritime experience
Open Water Diver certification
